YMCA HAS NEW PROGRAMS FOR THE NEW YEAR!
A new year is often accompanied by new resolve to reach and maintain healthy goals. The YMCA is ready to help. Beginning the week of January 4th the Barbara B. Jordan YMCA will be adding some new programs to the fitness lineup. New classes will include Zumba, Fitness 101, and Fit for Life. In addition, the aquatics department will be expanding to include an Assisted Swim Lessons program.
Zumba is an exciting, fast paced way to maximize caloric output. It is a fusion of music, dance, and fitness combined to create total body toning. The go with the flow atmosphere is perfect for any beginner or more advanced student wanting to add some flavor to their fitness routines. Zumba will be instructed by Melinda Davis on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7am-8am.
Fit for Life has been designed to target both men and women of all fitness levels. The program consists of low impact circuit training that emphasizes the basics and produces results. Class will include exercise instruction combined with information about proper nutrition to achieve the ideal weight and overall conditioning. Fit for Life will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7am-8am, instructed by Joseph Rumell.
Fitness 101 is perfect for anyone who is not sure where to start. A great way to get fit while finding the right fit for you. Class will alternate each week highlighting a variety of workout routines. Rotation will include step aerobics, resista-ball, body sculpting, and pilates techniques. Fitness 101 will meet on Monday evenings from 6pm-7pm and Friday mornings from 9:15-10:15am. Instructors will include Jeana Jennette, Shannon Kohl, Sandy Long, Kelly Martin, and Holly Brighton.
The Y also has a great addition to the aquatics program. Starting January 9th, the YMCA will offer Assisted Swimming Lessons. This class will offer a basic water experience/introduction to swimming for children (ages 4 to 14) with autism or other cognitive impairments. A parent or responsible adult will accompany child. The instructor will assist parents in teaching basic swim skills and pool safety. The class will meet on Saturday mornings from 11:00-11:30am.
